My quote for the day:

“If you’re not making someone else’s life better, then you’re wasting your time. Your life will become better by making other people’s lives better.” –  Will Smith

The Perfect Storm – Social Media

We are running into a crisis today as parents. Like the movie, “The Perfect Storm” the 1991 account of the fishing trawler “Andrea Gail” consisted of a crew of hard-working dedicated fisherman going out to find a big catch and got caught in an overwhelming storm. Weather reports revealed a tropical hurricane that came up from Bermuda which collided with a cold front from the Great Lakes, creating 100-foot waves and sinking the fishing boat resulting in a "perfect storm". “recalculating”. Read More

Life’s GPS

Many people know what a GPS is in your car or on your phone. You can input where you want to go and through satellite technology your GPS system will guide you where you want to go. The only requirement is that you must follow the directions it gives you. If your GPS instructs you to turn left in a quarter mile you must turn left. If it tells you to turn left and you go straight or turn right it corrects your map and gets you back on track again. If you miss your turn a familiar voice will gently tell you, “recalculating”. Read More

Hey Dad Did You Know

Hey Dad Did You Know:  I had a sudden heart attack 9 years ago and by God’s grace I lived.  At the time I was eating right and working out.  One night felt I felt a severe pain in my chest and my left arm.  I got up and took an Aspirin and went back to bed. I was dismissing it as something I ate.  Read More

Resolution or Resolve

As I look up both words I see they both have similar meanings but for me there is a different connotation. Maybe we have overused the word Resolution. For years people have been making a New Year’s Resolution, meaning I’m going to make an adjustment, I’m going to change something to make me better, to make my family better, to make work better or to make something work better than it did last year.

Why?

We are like children who ask their parent if they can do something that is not good for them. Read More

Psalms 139:5

You have surrounded me on every side behind me and before me and you have placed your hand gently on my shoulder.  Psalms 139:5   (Voice)

While praying this morning I read Psalms 139 which is one of my favorite chapters in the book of Psalms.  As a counselor I use the chapter frequently to let a person know vs 14, which tells us “I’m fearfully and wonderfully made and my SOUL knows it very well.”  As I read it this morning for myself verse 5 stood out, “… you have placed your hand gently on my shoulder”.   I can remember times in my life where someone has gently put their hand on my shoulder and there is something very comforting about that.  To me a gentle hand on the shoulder is affirming, encouraging, caring and it feels wonderful.  As I read it this morning I felt God gently put His hand on my shoulder.  When I allow God to do that it is always a blessing.  What do I mean by allow?  Psalms 46:10 “He says, be still and know that I am God.”  God wants to come up from behind you and rest His hand on your shoulder and tell you things that you need to hear.  It was a very wonderful time this morning in devotion to Him.
